Grace House Services

Grace House’s mission is to serve impoverished Mississippians living with, affected by, or at higher risk of HIV/AIDS by providing and maintaining housing where clients may live with dignity, safety, and care; delivering all the support necessary to improve health and financial situation and reducing stigma through education. Grace House was incorporated in 1994 but began housing people living with and dying from HIV and AIDS before incorporation. Grace House was started due to the number of displaced people, often due to stigma related to HIV, AIDS, or sexual or gender orientation or identity. In the early ’90s, Grace House operated as a home and, sometimes, a hospice care facility for people living and dying. What began as one two-story house in mid-town Jackson, Mississippi, has now grown into an organization that provides housing and supportive services to approximately 650 men, women, and children each night.

Sebrell Funeral Home

Sebrell Funeral Home and its owner, Trey Sebrell III, are passionate about ensuring a dignified end for everyone who comes through their doors. Featured in award-winning documentary short Departing Gesture, Trey speaks about his mission to care for those who have died from HIV/AIDS related illnesses with kindness and compassion. Sebrell Funeral Home stands firm in their dedication to meeting the deathcare needs of their community as the environment of ignorance and societal shame has seen the front lines of America’s HIV/AIDS epidemic migrate from urban city centers to the heart of the South.

Every situation calls for something different, and every different situation calls for different kinda help. But more importantly, when someone’s deceased, we should come together and help people. That’s what people are supposed to do, and that’s what the funeral business should do.” – Trey Sebrell III
