Our overarching aim at Equal Deathcare is to bring together inclusive providers and consumers looking for a safe place to pre-arrange (pre-need) or arrange at the time of loss (at-need) death care. Currently, we are working hard to identify inclusive and affirming providers and get them added to our state and national resource list.
We have additional goals for 2025!
- We would like to develop partnerships with other organizations that serve the LGBTQIA+ community so we can build a comprehensive network of end-of-life and death care champions working together to bring equitable death care to all. If you are a member of an organization with this goal, we would love to hear from you and build a relationship!
- We are honing our vetting rubric and process to identify affirming providers who do not explicitly market to the LGBTQIA+ community. We will be piloting our assessment tool soon. For more information, please reach out to us.
- We will also be adding the policies that drive death care in each state. This will take a lot of labor so please be patient with us as we add this in. The idea is that by knowing what is legal in your state you can be fully informed of your rights when it comes to arranging your death care. Armed with your state policies and inclusive provider options, you will have the resources needed to create the death care plan that is right for you/your loved ones.
- Jennifer’s book (written with Staci Zavattaro at the University of Central Florida) on equitable death care will be published in late 2025. The book will cover everything to public policy to funeral poverty to stigmatized deaths to death care literacy. We will make an announcement when the book is nearing publication.
Thanks to all of you who have supported us in this mission! Tell your friends and family and all the LGBTQIA+ folks you know about us and spread the word that we want to help you take charge of your death care and fight for equal death care rights for all!
